As the idea of the personal one of a kind book began to be an obsession with Chase, he began a notebook of ideas to explore, using a number of visual themes he had become interested in. The use of light metal in collage, the contrast of textures—sandpaper, wax, metal, string, thread, plaster and metalix paint—figure strongly in the compositions. These ideas were the springboard for GENERATION and FARBER, the books that had been commissioned.
