After its success with Delius Fennimore and Gerde, the Opera Theater asked Chase and Corsaro to premiere Delius earliest one-act MARGOT LA ROUGE on a double bill with Poulenc's MAMMELLES. For them, it seemed a perfect choicea world premiere with tons of press. Chase went to Paris to take slides of turn of the century locations. MARGOT concerns a prostitute and her romance with a soldier. The reviews were uniformly in praise of the production, and a disaster for the opera. The magical techinque failed to bring a mediocre work to life.
