THE BOOK AND ITS COVER was created in 1994 as an experiental, hands-on book about reading one's environment. How does the way people live, the way they put their homes together, the way they arrange the objects in their lives, and those objects themselves help observers discover how people are? When you enter someone's house, are you good at reading it? THE BOOK starts with a certain part of Paris, takes you through the streets of the neighborhood, leads you into the homes of Parisians, and then asks you to read the photos, and draw conclusions about who lives there. It also shows the toilet, because France is a country where toilets express a sense of identity (there are hundreds of choices). A small bit of information about the inhabitants of the homes are noted on the side of their photographs. Inside pictures will be posted here as time allows. |
